If the mag mount will allow it, supply your own coax and go with a good RG-8X. You don't mention how you'll be bringing the coax into the vehicle. If you go with a mag mount, get one of the larger ones (there are three magnet versions that are very secure) and a larger antenna. One is just slightly brighter than the other! It is just like trying to compare a 60 and 75 watt light bulb. Anything beyond 50 watts is a misconception, you won't get more range with a 65 watt radio then with a 50. You need a good 40 / 50 watt radio if you want any real range. Second most important after that is power. Your limits for range is - the height of the antenna above ground, the terrain, the soil conductivity beneath the vehicle and the size of the vehicle it is installed on. $159.00 Second would be a dual band wilson type antenna - can be purchased cheap online - $29.00 and up. Best results so far has been with a Larsen NMO 270 antenna set up. Longer wavelengths such as 15 / 20 meters, the antenna needs to be bonded to the body. A mag mount will work with a UHF / VHF antenna, because the body of the vehicle can capacitively couple with the antenna as long as the mass is beneath the antenna. The only good place to mount an antenna is in the middle of the roof.

If you mount an antenna on a corner of a vehicle, you will get directivity, gain in the direction with the most mass and less gain - loss in the direction with the least mass.
